The English Education System

Someone was saying in today's Observer that going to Eton is now acceptable and something comparable to elitism in other societies like the USA and France.

I am sorry but the English education system is still profoundly and uniquely immoral.

I feel shame and have since the age of 9 for having gone to an English public school.

Yes you should still feel ashamed of having gone to Eton and you should still be worried about being in the Eton Rifles.

This will only change when the best schools in England are free.

It also must be pointed out that many so-called "public" schools in England were founded in the late medieval period and early modern period with the explicit intention of educating the poor or the general populace.

The term "public school" it seems is a good example of a simple anachronism.
It was invented to distinguish these schools from "private tutors" in the Victorian era.
