Saw Obergruppensheister Frank Field on Hard Talk with "True Brit" Brillo Pad interviewing him and he was saying how everyone should just "get a job" basically.
He was saying 4 million people are economically inactive or whatever and they shouldn't be.
That people will be encouraged and it will be well worthwhile for them to "get a job".
That Incapacity Benefit will be renamed the Enabling Act - sorry Enablement Allowance - or something.
If I may make so bold as to question some of - no - all of the assumptions behind all this...
i) If you aren't well enough to do (paid) work you can't do any (paid) work.
ii) Well, these jobs aren't there.
ii) Paid employment is not (the only kind of) work.
iv) Everyone wants to work or be active but this is not the same as dictated paid work.
v) What is the cost to people and the planet of creating paid employment to the point where everyone has a "job"?
vi) Some vital work is poorly rewarded whereas some work that is completely useless meaningless and insubstantial - like for example advertising - is very generously rewarded.
vii) Why shouldn't I get a say as to what kind of (paid) employment I undertake.
viii) Why shouldn't I do as much (paid) work or as little (paid) work as I like?
viii) If it needs doing I'll do it. If someone has to be paid to do it then it must be pretty awful.
ix) WHY OH WHY OH WHY do those who work work too much ; and those who work less or not at all do next to nothing? What about sharing out the work?
These people - yes the the NewLabourParty are still supposed to be "socialists" - please read some Eric Fromm. We need to maybe plan things a bit more. A social market, you know?
Not just - "get a job!"
Feckers!
